Tenuta San Guido, in coastal Tuscany's town of Bolgheri, produces Sassicaia, one of Italy's and the world's best wines (at over $200 per bottle) and the first “SuperTuscan” (1968). It is the only Italian winery to have its own DOC (Bolgheri Sassicaia)! The Tenuta also makes the entry-level Le Difese and this mid-level Guidalberto. Wine Advocate (Monika Larner): 94+ “Showing exceptionally well in this classic vintage. The 2016 Guidalberto (Cabernet Sauvignon and a smaller percentage of Merlot) opens to a full and generous bouquet and a beautifully rich and velvety appearance. This edition offers a bigger aromatic profile, more texture and more volume as well. The mouthfeel is elegantly shaped, silky and nuanced. May well be the best Guidalberto yet. 2019-30
About Tenuta San Guido
Hailed as the standard-bearer of Italian enology, Tenuta San Guido is known, above all, for crafting Sassicaia, the world’s first Super Tuscan. Its overwhelming success, and that of two new wines, began with Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta’s ambition to plant Bordeaux varieties in Tuscany in the 1940s. • Tenuta San Guido is hailed as the standard-bearer of Italian enology. • Creator of the first-ever Super Tuscan Sassicaia—first released to the market in 1968 • Sassicaia is so distinctive it was granted its own DOC, Bolgheri Sassicaia, as of 1994 • Two additional wines introduced in 2000 and 2002—Guidalberto and Le Difese • Still owned by the noble Incisa della Rocchetta family
