It broke tradition by blending predominantly Sangiovese with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, and aging in small oak barriques—unconventional at the time, but it forever changed Italian winemaking. The wine is produced exclusively from the limestone-rich Tignanello vineyard between Montefiridolfi and Chianti, and its creation marked a pivotal shift from Chianti Classico norms.
